Technologies

My magazine was made using Adobe Photoshop and I used Blogger and Flickr to create the accompanying planning notes and evaluation.

Above is a screenprint of my front cover in Photoshop. I had never used it before. I am still yet to learn many of the amazing things this program can do! But because I have been working on it nearly every day I have learnt a lot from it and it has been really helpful. I put my photographs into Photoshop and changed them slightly to make them suit my magazine. When I took my photos the background was light which meant that I needed to get rid of it as the magazine background was black. Photoshop meant that I could do little things like this to make all the difference and make my magazine look professional. My original photos aren't much different to the edited ones because I didn't want my models to look too Photoshopped. I lightened the images but left any skin imperfections because this is a music magazine featuring new acts, not Cosmopolitan. I did make one serious change to the photos of the group however. The character on the left was much shorter than the other two and this spoiled the composition. Also, the front cover wasn't really wide enough to get the three in as I had originally photographed them. What I decided to do was separate my models and then re-size them and move them so that they were closer together. I don't think this interfered with anything other than the composition of the image and I am really pleased with the outcome.

Flickr is a program which I used a lot also. I annotated a lot of my work on there for my evaluation. It's easy to use because you can use 'notes' and put them on particular parts of the
page and annotate it easily. I used Flickr for most of my evaluation and I also used it in my planning as well. I like this programme, it is fun to use s you don't realise that you are doing what might otherwise be a boring task such as producing a textual analysis. I think it is also more fun to read than lots of paragraphs of text.

I used the google search engine for my evaluation to find pictures of people that looked like my models. I also used google to look up information about existing magazines to help me to create my own. I looked up contents pages, double page spreads and front covers of existing magazines and I saved these images to my computer so that I could refer to them when I needed to.

Finally, I used dafont.com which is a website offering hundreds of different fonts. The choice is amazing and it was excellent for creating something different for the masthead. As my project is just for college, I was able to use the font free of charge.
