Looking back at my prelimary task, what have I learnt?

The difference between my college magazine (right) and my music magazine (left) is for me quite pleasing. My college magazine doesn't have enough pictures on the front cover and looks plain and boring. My music magazine looks much more professional and interesting and would definitely be more appealing to it's target audience.

When doing my first college magazine I had never used Photoshop before and could only do the basics. I think the reason I made the photograph black and white was because I didn't really know how else to edit it and make it obvious I had changed it from the original photo. I also thought that making it black and white would create a nice contrast from the red background. Now looking back at my college magazine I think the photo is quite bad anyway and the black and white doesn't work. The over all colour scheme doesn't seem too bad though. My new music magazine photo is much better.

I definitely learnt from my preliminary task not to take any photos without planning where they would be and what I wanted my models to do first. I chose to keep the ideal of a circle bubble with writing inside because it's a good way to break up the page from just photos and cover lines. On my new music magazine I have used more variation in colour and fonts and I think it makes it look much better. My main masthead font is much more suitable than the font on my preliminary task. I used the font 'skribble' font 'dafont.' It looks messy and conventional of a rock magazine.
