Before adding the final touches

The production process took a long time even though I had a good plan of what I wanted to do from analysing dozens of existing magazines and creating collages and drafts on paper first. There was a big difference between having ideas and bringing these to life using Photoshop. I redrafted a couple of times but mostly I just kept refining my pieces, adding details such as shadows to the photographs to add a professional touch.

Above is a print screen of my contents page just before I had finished.

I was a bit unsure of the white space but didn't have much of an idea what to put there. I looked at Kerrang magazine and tried to see what they do with the white space. They included a quote from the editor and also a quote from the main band. So I decided to do this to fill the white space and to make my contents page look more realistic.

I'm glad that I looked at Kerrang whilst planning my magazine because otherwise I would have still had this white space and it doesn't look very professional. I also borrowed the idea of putting a little picture of the front cover on there as well. This just adds another image to my contents page and makes it look professional and eye catching.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have chosen to compare this photo of 'Biffy Clyro' with my own photo that I used as my front cover image.

Demographics.
Biffy Clyro are all white males. Aged 29 - 30. Social class is unknown from this picture. They are dressed in smart/casual clothing but at the same time they have the rough/cool look about them. The band are scottish.

Psychographics.
They are going for an individual look. I don't really think they fit into a sub cultural group because of their age.

Demographics.
My own photo is similar in that there are three white males. My models were aged 16-17. Social class is again unknown just from the picture.
They are dressed in casual clothes. This is where my photo differs from the one of Biffy Clyro. My band don't have as much of an image. Their style is hard to figure out because they are dressed so differently. My models are english but the band they are supposed to be in are American. This could explain the slight difference in style as Biffy Clyro are scottish.

Psychographics.
I think this photo would make the band appear aspirers. But the band itself would be individuals because of their unique style of music rather than their image. Sub cultural groups could include possibly 'emo's,' 'punks' or 'goths.' This is because the band would dress in a way which promotes their own music and appeals to the audience they want.

My magazine is neither pro-consumerist or anti-consumerist. I wouldn't say it is pro-consumerist because the aim isn't to get people to buy it's to give people an interest and to give them gossip on their favourite artists. However my magazine isn't anti-consumerist either because in ways it would be encouraging the reader to buy music or to buy instruments or clothing similar to that of their idols.
